What Are Koroyd and twICEme?

Koroyd is a welded tube structure inside the helmet that crumples instantly and consistently on impact, absorbing force in a controlled way so less energy reaches the head. twICEme is an NFC chip built into the helmet that stores emergency contacts and critical information for first responders.

Impact Protection

Koroyd absorbs more energy from any angle of impact, protecting the skull and brain.

Leading Performance

Koroyd says its structure outperforms EPS foam by 48% and prevents energy rebound.

Visual End-of-Life Check

Inspecting the tube structure shows when the helmet is compromised and needs replacing.

Reduced Heat Stress

Air flows through the open cell structure, so hot air escapes from the head.

Lightweight

The tubes are 95% air, so the helmet stays light without giving up protection.

twICEme Emergency Chip

Stores emergency contacts and medical details that responders can read with a phone when seconds matter.

Which Accessories Fit the SHK-1?

Add eye, face, hearing and sun protection to the helmet, plus comfort items for hot and cold days. For work at the slab edge, pair helmets with debris and safety netting and guarded scaffold platforms.

Half Shield

ANSI Z89.1 certified. Moves and tucks under the brim.

Face Shield

Clear (ANSI Z87+ certified) or mesh (ANSI Z87.1 certified). Tucks under the brim.

Sentinel Safety Glasses

ANSI Z87+ certified, with vented lenses to prevent fogging and an adjustable nose bridge.

ED-2 Ear Defender

Attaches to the helmet. NRR 24 decibels, meeting ANSI S3.19-1974.

Neck Shade and Sun Brim

Neck shade protects from UV rays. The sun brim slides on and off with UPF 50 protection.

Cooling Towel and Cap

Stay cool for up to 2 hours with UPF 50 protection and chemical-free cooling. The cap adds a neck nape.

Beanie and Fleece Liner

A breathable performance beanie or a soft thermal fleece liner for cold days.

Replacement Pad Set

Ionic+ antimicrobial and anti-odor pads that protect you and the helmet.

Head Lamp

Up to 8 hours of run time, wave activated, IPX4 and 1 m drop rated.

What Do Type II, Class C and Class E Mean?

On construction sites, OSHA 1926.100 requires head protection wherever there is a possible danger of head injury from impact, falling or flying objects, or electrical shock. In general industry, OSHA 1910.135 requires helmets that meet ANSI Z89.1.

Type I vs. Type II

ANSI Z89.1 Type I helmets protect against blows to the top of the head. Type II helmets, like the SHK-1, also protect against blows to the sides.

Class E (Electrical)

Class E helmets are tested to 20,000 volts under ANSI Z89.1. The non-vented SHK-1 models are Class E.

Class C (Conductive)

Class C helmets give no protection from electrical hazards. Vents keep them cooler where electricity is not a risk.

Studson Helmet FAQ

Answers about Studson SHK-1 helmets from ATI Construction Products.

Which Studson SHK-1 should I choose for electrical work?

Choose a Class E model: the SHK-1 Type II Class E Non-Vented or the SHK-1 Full Brim Class E Non-Vented. Class E helmets are tested to 20,000 volts under ANSI Z89.1. The vented Class C models give no electrical protection.

What is the difference between the standard and full brim SHK-1?

The standard SHK-1 has a short front brim and comes in M/L (53 to 59 cm) and XL (58 to 63 cm) sizes at 495 g. The full brim SHK-1 has a brim all the way around for sun and rain, comes in one size from 53 to 63 cm, and weighs 525 g.

Is the Studson SHK-1 a Type II helmet?

Yes. Every SHK-1 model is certified to ANSI Z89.1-2014 Type II, which covers impacts to the top and sides of the head.

What colors does the SHK-1 come in?

Colors depend on the model. The standard vented helmet comes in white, grey, black, orange, hi-vis, green, red and navy blue. The standard Class E adds safety yellow and royal blue. Full brim models come in white, grey, carbon, blue, green, orange and yellow, and the vented full brim adds hi-vis yellow.

What is Koroyd in a Studson helmet?

Koroyd is a welded tube structure that crumples instantly on impact to absorb force before it reaches the head. It is 95% air, so it also keeps the helmet light and lets heat escape.
